R.I.P. Rauschenberg

American artist Robert Rauschenberg died yesterday at age 82.

Here is a fascinating video of one of his most controversial works, in which he erases a Willem de Kooning drawing. It is really interesting to see his obvious respect for de Kooning’s work and, at the same time, his sense of humor and brilliantly mischievous thought process.

Gold-Fused Sculptures Made From Remnants of Shattered Porcelain

According to Korean tradition, artisans have a habit of destroying and discarding imperfect pieces. Since 2001 Korean artist Yeesookyung has taken these porcelain fragments, creating beautiful, imperfect sculptures by fusing them with gold leaf in the Japanese tradition of kintsugi.
