New Pigeon John!

Last week my good buddy Pigeon John had a show here in Vancouver. He put me and a friend on the guestlist so I thought I’d return the favour by taping the show and putting it on the net. Here’s some highlights from the show, which includes a new song called “So Gangster” (Booooooom! Exclusive!)

Sometimes I hear people hating on him because he’s too silly or he’s joking around or whatever but you people need to lighten UP. You’ll see in the clip he does this “Pigeon Dance” where he is clapping like a fool, and he does that kind of stuff to really humble himself on stage – so he knows that he’s always out there giving it all he’s got (I’ve heard him talk about it). He’s got no ego. This is what performing should be about.

Make sure you get out and see him live! Sorry about my filming, I was getting my dance on and trying to shoot at the same time.

Jeff Hamada is the Founder and Editor of Booooooom. He lives and works in Vancouver.

Amazing Collaborative Drawing Performance Between Human Artist and Robot Arm

“Drawing Operations” is an ongoing collaboration between New York-based artist Sougwen Chung and a robotic arm called Drawing Operations Unit: Generation 1, (D.O.U.G._1). Together the two draw in synchronized performance, with D.O.U.G. mimicking Chung’s movements in real time using a ceiling-mounted camera and computer vision. The arm was designed in collaboration with developer Yotam Mann.

Artist Spotlight: j.frede

Beautifully combined images in this series by Los Angeles-based artist j.frede. Made with seemingly banal landscape photographs purchased at flea markets and arranged into a single scene, these collages effectively merge different times and places together, creating entirely new landscapes. The gorgeous framing is really makes this simple idea quite striking. More images from Fiction Landscapes below.
