Simen Johan
I often come across uncredited imagery and spend hours and hours trying to track down the artist responsible. I am supremely satisfied having finally found, Simen Johan.

mmm yep, definitely a favourite artist of mine, brilliant work!
These are great, but I have a general aesthetic question that I hope someone can answer. Why is animal imagery becoming so prevalent (consuming?) among young artists?
Ditto Mark. Personally I think I resonate so much with animals because their life often stands as the direct antithesis of the things I wish I could change about mine, I live in a huge sprawling city, I never get to hangout in the grass, I have a job that doesn’t connect in the least to my basic survival (nothing to do with food production, shelter, clothing, etc.) I guess I feel a little disconnected from the world sometimes and animals stand for a creature that is connected. I am getting a bird tattoo in a bit and a jellyfish and realized I need to stop after that before my arm becomes a sleeve of animals!
Good question, Mark. I often wonder the same thing.
This person and the girl that gives horses beautiful hair-dos need to do a collaboration.
haha yea that would be the perfect fit actually
Slightly spooky, very dreamy.
I can’t stop staring at the one of the deer. I keep looking at it as a painting with the colors dripping down from the body of the deer. It’s beautiful.
i think i need that hair-bear in my living room.
I’m used to encountering same problem (not knowing who the artist of a certain image is), but since I use Tineye.com I’ve managed to find pretty much everything…
hope that can help you
yea tineye still doesn’t always work! but as time goes on it can only get better as more of the internet is indexed
its good, and i love some of them loads, but i have a real problem with with the sparkly pedestalls
i didn’t even notice that, yea those are horrible. with the stars and everything
I think it’s meant to be tacky. LIke a circus thing. I mean it’s a wolf, with hair extensions and looks like crystals in the hair for gods sake. a scary fairy tale animal put on beauty display. the glitter and stars totally works for me. maybe little red riding hood took control over the wolf instead of the opposite.
to me, the tackiness undermines the rest of the pieces which show no elements of the intentional tackiness. its inconsistent.
did you see his llama with a poodle haircut? or the foxes that are crying?
yea i did and i’ve read that Johan’s work is about the relationship between the real and the artificial and i just feel it still addresses that relationship without the use of a circus platform. the other works are more subtle which i like.
Hair cut.
Found this thru Sci-Fi Orama.
That deer piece is sublime!
As if the deer had time to get old and grow its hair, rather than get shot… and eaten.
