Wow these are really amazing! I am weak for soldier photos and paintings, but these are really amzing and cool with those color contrasts!

  • Really like the one with all that blue.

  • Absolutely incredible painting skills, some of the paintings look as though they are vector illustrations, the quality is that good. I love the unfinished areas of the paintings, how it sort of fades out. My favourite is the second image of the single soldier, the detail of the wood is spot on, and the painting is impecable, I love the captured expression on the soldier’s face, you couldn’t get more perfection if you tried. I also really like the first and third images for the bold colours used to represent the sky and sunset/rise.

  • You Mr Hamada are a Menace!!!!This post and Soooooooo Many of these posts inspire me and make we want to sack off work and run home with hands outstrecthed ready to grab my paintbrushes!!
    !!!
must remain calm and wait till end of day.
    🙂

    • haha thanks mokasi!

  • amazing. the detail in the camo is SO rad! the wood grain backgrounds make the images
    pop!
was wondering if you took original photos?
the subject matter looks almost top secret! ha!

  • Steve

Haha, I was lucky enough to have him as my painting prof!
That’s sweet that he’s featured on one of my favourite sites!

  • very cool!! I especially like the wood showing through

  • lapetitefaon

wow, striking, and some how emotional, the two soldiers together MAN, unreal!

  • these are absolutely amazing. the ‘domestic violence’ series on his site is really great too…

  • This is mindblowing!

  • I am in love with this half-finished style and use of color.

  • Hi,

Thanks for all the super-great comments.
A couple of answers to a couple of questions.

Yeah, the soldiers are all soldiers I’ve worked with over the past few years. The paintings are based on my own photos.

This came about through the much under-appreciated Canadian Forces Artist Program with whom I’m working on my second project. If you’re interested, here’s the new stuff to date (Lots’o writing) http://enfiladeanddefilade.blogspot.com/

Artist Dominic Wilcox Creates Art Exhibition Specifically For Dogs

Wilcox1

London-based artist and designer Dominic Wilcox (if you don’t know who he is you have to watch this) has come up with the ultimate contemporary art exhibition for dogs as part of an initiative to encourage people to play more with their pets.

Working in consultation with veterinary experts, installations include an open car window simulator and a 10 ft ball pit made to look like a dog bowl filled with dog food. Paintings by artists Claire Mallison, Joanne Hummel-Newell, Robert Nicol and Michelle Thompson hang low to the ground and specifically draw on colours within dogs’ visual spectrum.

Such a great idea! Check out more images and video of the exhibit below, including some of Wilcox’s preliminary sketches!
