  • it’s so satisfying to watch this!

    • yes! especially the closeups of it flowing out of the tip of the quill

  • What a wonderful video! I have been doing a bit of calligraphy these days but the control the artist has is amazing. Very envious of his skills.

  • Cassie

definitely cool video but this guy is an ass, he sent hate mail attacking revoks and rime’s work from msk, he sounds stuck up and doesn’t think things through.

Great site, blog and post, keep up the excellent work :-)

  • Wow. How beautifully shot. I love the marriage of the planned and the spontaneous. I also love to see his preparation routine at the beginning. Elegant.

  • Gives me a peaceful, relaxing feeling. The speed of his hand is like dancing on the paper.

Photographer Thomas Prior Captures Mexican Festival of Sledgehammers and Homemade Explosives

thomas-prior36

Men in the Mexican town of San Juan de la Vega wield sledgehammers loaded with homemade explosives, in this series of intense photographs by American photographer Thomas Prior.

Part of an annual festival honouring St. John the Baptist, residents take part in the exploding sledgehammer ritual, dodging deadly shrapnel to commemorate a time when the town’s namesake was able to triumph over some gold-stealing bandits! See more images from “Bomba” below, available now through Dashwood Books.
