Peaking Lights / Hey Sparrow

The husband/wife duo that is Peaking Lights just released a video for Hey Sparrow, directed by Cam Archer (Xiu Xiu, Julianna Barwick, Sarabeth Tucek), off Weird World‘s reissue of their record 936.

Watch the video below!

Peaking Lights lean heavily on dub and reggae influences, combining elements of psychedelic bedroom pop with homemade synthesizers, and blown out analog electronics. The couple- two veteran musicians, moved from the Bay area to create what I only imagine to be a Willy-Wonka type noise factory within the reconstructed walls of an old barn in rural Wisconsin.

Maybe it was their new baby that inspired the concept for this video: a little girl’s wanderlust for play, but instead of painting some kind of utopian childhood experience, there’s an eerie sense of loneliness, combined with the hushed lullaby vocals that almost seem taunting. It’s at the height of her imagination that she manifests a garbage-monster friend, leaving her completely transfixed by what’s before her. Watch the video below and listen to the remix off their 936 limited edition remix 12″. You can grab that here.
