Call For Submissions: Pictoplasma’s Face-Off Challenge

Fabio Tonetto

Despite the explosion of filters, stickers and face-swapping apps it’s rare to come across a selfie that feels genuinely inspired. Enter Pictoplasma. Already a leading force in character design and art through their numerous conferences and academies, Pictoplasma has teamed up with Adobe Project 1324 to invite youth (aged 18-24) from around the globe to put creativity back into focus!

Simply start with a regular headshot or profile picture, then re-create a new self-portrait that puts your unique (inner) personality on display. Any medium or tool may be used: drawing, collage, digital painting, vector illustration, 3D graphics, masks, costume design… (or all of the above).

Deadline for submissions is August 15. The first 100 participants will be eligible to win one of ten year-long Creative Cloud subscriptions, donated by Adobe. Of all the entries, 5 winners will be selected to receive a full Pictoplasma Character Design fellowship. This includes travel costs and participation at the Pictoplasma Academy masterclass in Mexico City (October 2017), six-months of online mentoring and attendance at the Pictoplasma Berlin Conference (May 2018) —- including the opportunity to exhibit in an exclusive group show.

Photographer Spotlight: Angeles Peña

“Aguas de Montaña” is a journey into The Andean Patagonia, a desolate territory where photographer Angeles Peña lived all of her childhood.

She says, “In a world that spins faster and faster I feel an enormous necessity to focus on the details and the beauty of what still remains. I find myself with a nature that sustains itself but can fall at any moment. It is something that surpasses me and I cannot stop observing.”
