“Botanical Inquiry” by Photographer Daniel Shipp

Sydney-based photographer Daniel Shipp fosters a renewed appreciation for traditionally under-appreciated plants. Collecting a variety of foliage, culturally designated as “weeds,” Shipp then shoots them in dioramas using effects techniques developed for early cinema as a way of showcasing their unique beauty and knack for survival. See more images and a video about the project below.

I was doing this ten years ago and mine are much more beautifully lit from different angles in situ. Once I get my bloody extra hard drive fixed I’ll upload them to prove it. These photos are stilted and far too dark.

  • beautiful pictures – I wish the video showed more about the techniques he talks about in it – seems like a bit of a pointless video otherwise!
