David Horvitz

On the weekend I hopped over to Fillip to hear Brooklyn-based artist, David Horvitz speak. His collaborator Mylinh Trieu Nguyen beamed in via ichat and they spoke about their work in a really intimate setting. It was so inspiring! One of the projects they spoke about is called 100 $1 Grants which allows anyone to email and apply for a $1 grant to help launch any sort of creative project (you can still apply)! I love this idea.

I asked David if he’d ever experimented with fax machines (I had a hunch he had). He said he would use Google to find random fax numbers in different cities and then find out what time the sun would set in each city. Then he’d send over a fax that simply stated “Today the sun will set at 5:45pm”, in an effort to interrupt someone’s daily routine and perhaps encourage them to go watch the sun set.

Beautiful/Decay re-launch!

The good folks over at Beautiful/Decay are about to relaunch their publication with a bunch of exciting changes! They are doing away with all traditional advertising as well as increasing the size of each issue by 50%, meaning the new B/D will be 164 pages of pure inspiration! I’m not sure how they can afford to do this, it almost sounds too good to be true. However, limited runs released three times per year means you might wanna get a subscription.

Beautiful/Decay has supported Booooooom since day one and I’d like nothing more than to see them make a successful transition. Good luck guys!
