I am sick at home today but a box just arrived at my front door that cheered me up. The good folks at Oakley sent over three pairs of their new Frogskins (including the four-leg one), plus the Robert Pimple (aka Barry Mcgee) Hijinx frame, and the Will Barras Montefrios! Thank you very much!
We are growing at an alarming rate! We’ve had over 1,000,000 pageviews in just the last 30 days, and we’re still less than a year old! The Facebook Group is so big now, they won’t let me send you all messages anymore (good problem I guess).
So I just wanted to take a second to say thanks to all of you for the support! I feel like I know many of you now (especially the frequent commentors), and there is definitely a great creative community forming here. I love running the site and hope to eventually make it my full-time job! Keep your eyes peeled, there’s lots of fun things coming…
At the risk of having you never come back to this site, I have compiled a list of 17 other sites to feed your creative appetite. Dozens more could have been added to this list (perhaps there will be a sequel to it). Most of the sites included here do not get the credit they deserve, and even the popular ones deserve even more attention. In no particular order:
1. Triangle Triangle – A fantastic photoblog (my favourite on the entire internet). Jake’s tastes are really similar to mine.
All you aspiring art directors and designers in the Vancouver area, here’s your chance to win a two-year fully paid $18,000 scholarship to Langara College’s new Communication and Ideation Design program, courtesy of ad agency Rethink. I actually got my fine arts diploma from Langara before heading to Emily Carr for my degree!
Students apply by using a sketch book to convey their ideas, entries will be judged by Rethink co-creative directors Chris Staples and Ian Grais. Get full details here: rethinkscholarship.com!
Another great magazine showed up at my door, Living Proof. It’s got a nice selection of art and photography, even some design. Interviews with Ron English (cover art), Mars-1, Kevin Lyons, and House Industries among others. Great print and paper quality, and it’s as thick as an Archie double digest. Oh yes, this little guy’s FREE!
Thanks to everyone who came out! You all made it such a fun night! I still have to find out the total amount raised but it was a great turnout and A LOT of shoes were sold! Good news for those of you who don’t live here, you can get them online, HERE.
