The latest buzz on the net has been about the latest Nike+ Original Run mix by A-trak (I liked the one Aesop Rock did awhile ago). These mixes are specifically crafted by the artists for you to workout to.
Many sites have been posting up either the first single (a section of this mix cut out to be a single) “Like Whoa” or the sampler of this mix. But what I have for you is an original cut with Lupe Fiasco that didn’t get cleared! VIEW THE FULL POST —►
Last week my good buddy Pigeon John had a show here in Vancouver. He put me and a friend on the guestlist so I thought I’d return the favour by taping the show and putting it on the net. Here’s some highlights from the show, which includes a new song called “So Gangster” (Booooooom! Exclusive!)
Sometimes I hear people hating on him because he’s too silly or he’s joking around or whatever but you people need to lighten UP. You’ll see in the clip he does this “Pigeon Dance” where he is clapping like a fool, and he does that kind of stuff to really humble himself on stage – so he knows that he’s always out there giving it all he’s got (I’ve heard him talk about it). He’s got no ego. This is what performing should be about.
Make sure you get out and see him live! Sorry about my filming, I was getting my dance on and trying to shoot at the same time.
Stereogum revealed the album cover and the tracklist a couple weeks ago and now another track from the album has hit the net. Gamma Ray. After hearing Chem Trails and now Gamma Ray it’s safe to say that my hopes are pretty darn high at this point. The album comes out in about two weeks!!! I can’t wait!
Are there any fans of Canadian hip hop out there? I dug up a little treat for you. If you don’t already know, allow me to introduce Red1, Misfit (and Dj Kemo) aka Rascalz. They released an album in 1997 called Cash Crop that every hip hop fan (at least in Vancouver) should have played to death – but a few years before that they released another album, Really Livin. This album is what I like about hip hop.
I was listening to a mix of hip hop songs from 1993 by Dj Ayres and I realised not many people talk about or are familiar with what was coming out of Canada around this time. Rascalz had a very distinct sound (thanks to Kemo) right out the gate and it’s a shame that no one else really ran with it or the pacific northwest could have had a really specific sound identified with it. Nowadays we have some really great hip hop acts like K-os and K’naan to be excited about, but these guys paved the way. VIEW THE FULL POST —►
Recently Radiohead got together in producer Nigel Godrich’s studio to perform their most recent album, In Rainbows, for VH1. View the performance here. I haven’t actually seen it because VH1 has decided to shutout Canadians from viewing any of their content online. THANK YOU VH1.
Despite VH1′s best efforts I have managed to get the entire thing in mp3 for you all, and considering the fact that Radiohead is one of the ugliest bands EVER this might be the best way to experience their performance anyways. I think it’s a lot easier to take a band seriously when everyone in it is ugly, I mean they definitely weren’t put together to market anything – they are too ugly remember! Oh to have the skills of an ugly person who remains in the spotlight for any extended period of time! Anyways…
Download the full performance in all its glory (I like it better than the actual album) after the jump! VIEW THE FULL POST —►
J Dilla might be pulling a Tupac on us here, it’s been a couple years since his death and there seems to always be unreleased material of his popping up. One such track circulating the net recently is Trucks – Dilla’s take on Gary Numan’s Cars. Although the vocals are kinda whateve, the beat is undeniably neck snapping Dilla goodness.

Looking for just the right thing to throw into your cd player onto your ipod to please all the hipsters coming to your BBQ? I present you a collection of remixes by the Canadian duo known as MSTRKRFT. Both dudes were associated in one way or another with the criminally slept-on band, Death From Above 1979 (Jesse was the bassist and Alex produced their second album). I don’t know how they didn’t get more popular… How many bands do you know only have a drummer and a bassist AND the drummer is the lead singer??? BAD ASS.
It is hard to deny their ability to take a mediocre, sometimes downright terrible, song and turn it into a dancefloor hammer. Enjoy the remixes and bonus videos after the jump! VIEW THE FULL POST —►
