“Fuck You Pablo”- 1930’s Harmony Guitar
Ron Ulicny – Portland, Oregon
We switched it up a bit this time, instead of having The Sheepdogs perform with homemade instruments we paired them up with award-winning Afro Cuban pianist Hilario Duran and drummer Reimundo Sosa so they could explore a new sound together. The results were AMAZING. I wish they’d all do a whole album together!
Hopefully this video gets you stoked to spend the weekend building instruments and exploring styles of music that you normally wouldn’t! Your submissions to our homemade instruments project have been amazing so far! I’ll be posting a gallery of submissions shortly!

Another great submission to our Made of Imagination project with MTV.
Ryan Gregory made an 8 string guitar with hand made pickups, and thumb-pianos built from bicycle spokes, yard rakes, and other stuff. There’s also a suitcase kick drum and a foot powered hi-hat/tambourine/snare combo instrument. Love the performance at the end!

Love this submission to our project from Jeff Conley!
After having two vintage Gibson guitars stolen after a show he decided he would never buy another guitar. Instead he started to build acoustic and electric guitars out of old vintage suitcases! He has even built electric foot drums from the suitcases as well!
This song below is called “For Gibby” for his stolen guitar:

Last week we launched our “Made of Imagination” project with MTV, our biggest collaboration yet! In case you forgot already or didn’t see the original post, we wanna see who can make the most creative homemade instruments on the planet, and we’d love to see videos of you and your friends performing with them!
We’re also asking some emerging Canadian musicians to do the same kinda thing! The video above is the first of four that we’ve produced, and it features rising star Rich Aucoin.
Ready to make your own instruments???
