Rest in Peace Luc Bourdon

The Canadian Press reported some extremely sad news today, Canucks defenceman Luc Bourdon was killed today riding his motorcycle in northern New Brunswick. He was just 21 years old and he had so much potential as the Canucks first round pick in the 2005 draft. I am shocked, this is so tragic. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.

I don’t know why I never saw this when it came out! My sister sent me the link to this really great documentary called Good Copy Bad Copy. It is a film by Andreas Johnsen, Ralf Christensen, and Henrik Moltke about the good, the bad, and the ugly of copyrights. Girltalk and Dangermouse discuss their music and Tiamo from PirateBay talks about his battle to continue providing the world with pirated software.

There are many other interesting stories weaved throughout the film which introduce things I’d never heard of like “Nollywood” and “Techno Brega”. If you already know everything about everything, I guess you don’t need to watch the film and you also deserve an award… *I hand you a piece of paper that says “Congratulations, you jackass.”

You can watch the entire film after the jump! (And there might also be a fabulous bonus link) MORE…

Remind me to get rich at some point.

I have never been a fan of the Mini. People change. Aznom Design Studio got their hands on the Clubman and well, this car is now ridiculous. The customized Clubman is appropriately named The Chateau, and is a work of art from bumper to bumper. Did I mention there’s a shock-absorbent wine cellar in the back? Think I’m joking?

I hope the cocaine treats you better

Have you ever grown up with someone, lost touch with them, then reconnected with them only to find out they are now a musician (usually *gasp* a dj)? This is pretty common I think, it’s probably happened to you more than once. It’s this next part that is uncommon – the individual you used to know, has become an amazing musician.

Introducing Rob Fillo. He is not a dj (I realise the photo is misleading, I just liked it) he plays guitar and he sings in a style that I would call folk, or better yet indie-folk (so all you hipsters will actually listen). It’s in the vein of… well, I had a list in my head of all these artists I was going to name-drop here, but how about you just grab the song and have a listen for yourself. It’s only a matter of time before his music’s on all the blogs.

If you like it, head on over to his website – there’s a few more songs to listen to and links to purchase the album via cdbaby or individual songs via itunes.

Enjoy.

Wonderland Remixed.

Youtube user Fagottron (am I reading that right?) has quietly released a little gem onto the net. Alice in Wonderland gets the chop-shop treatment and the result is a beautiful little downtempo track called “Alice”.

Ladies and gentlemen, start your downloads.

A friend of a friend, DJ U-Tern has a great music blog (and is an incredible musician himself). One of his latest posts made my jaw drop. This is hands down the largest collection of impossible to find live hip hop recordings. Grandmaster Flash, Whiz Kid, Funky 4+1, Cold Crush, The Force MC’s, soooooo many more (I’m talking like 90,000 links).

Who knows how long the links will last – get ‘em while you can. I apologize ahead of time for the time you are going to spend at this site. You’ll find all the links after the jump!

Love from Brazil.

Sao Paulo Brazil has its own version of Tim Barnard in the form of the artist duo Mulheres Barbadas. The two self-described “bearded ladies” take turns drawing until the page is full – love this idea! Their portfolio includes lots of music packaging and work for Coca Cola and MTV. Enjoy a few more images after the jump.
