Coasting is the perfect band name for shoe-gazey, dream-pop kind of music. It ellicits that kind of ‘meh, whatever’ quality that bands like Real Estate or Best Coast pull off so well. It’s no surprise that this two-piece girl band includes Vivian Girls’ drummer- Fiona Campbell, and friend Madison Farmer.

San Diego’s art collective, Sezio is kind of like the real-life version of all those conversations we have with like minded artist friends over coffee, that sound something like, “wouldn’t it be great if we just had a community space to lounge around with laptops and old cameras, beers and vinyl?”
I thought I’d dig through the internet to come up with some of the best covers of the week on the internet. And here are my picks: Ólöf Arnalds and Marissa Nadler. They’ve both re-interpreted Springsteen; one with an intimate Icelandic croon, the other, with a mild twang; giving The Boss some needed feminine warmth. I love the juxtaposition between the great American hero of rock, country and blues: Springsteen translated through a feminine lens. Its got that empathetic quality reminding us all that ladies get the blues, too.
Ólöf Arnalds might lazily be compared with Bjork, (although they have collaborated together on a number of projects) but there’s something far more ancient about her; her voice is bewitching, it’s got this hummingbird-like texture to it. It makes it all the more endearing when she sings, “I’ve got a bad desire”. That just really seems unlikely.

Jessica Jalbert sounds like: Memoryhouse, Warpaint, Camera Obscura, the soundtrack to The Virgin Suicides that never was.
Hey everyone, I want to introduce you to my friend Nada!
We connected last year when she was working with Invisible Children and I got hooked on her music blog Friends With Both Arms. She’s introduced me to so much music I thought it would be fun to have her post some of her discoveries over here (every now and then).
Please give her a warm welcome!
