Pow! Wow! Taiwan Re-Cap Video

powwowtaiwan-01 powwowtaiwan-02 powwowtaiwan-03 powwowtaiwan-04

Next week I’m flying out to Honolulu for the giant arts festival known as Pow! Wow! Hawaii. Booooooom is gonna be a media sponsor again, and actually we’re teaming up with WeTransfer to produce an official video for this year’s festival! So keep your eyes peeled for that.

In the lead up to the event the team has just released a video re-cap of Pow! Wow! Taiwan, the most recent festival, which took place in Taipei.

Vincent Ricafort did a great job capturing the fun vibe of the event. You may recognize a lot of artists I’ve featured on Booooooom (I’m in there a bit too), and if you’re wondering who the dancing people are they’re the organizers and volunteers who worked tirelessly to put on an amazing event. Thank you to everyone involved, I had the best time!

Tumblr’s 2014 Year In Review

Tumblr has compiled their 2014 Year In Review and even though there’s a lot of content I could care less about, it is interesting to see who and what (in a variety of categories) was shared the most this year.

A Selection Of My Favourite Images Found In 2014: 75 Photos By 75 Photographers

At the end of every year I try to collect all my favourite photos in one giant post (you can see previous roundups here: 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009). I want to clarify that this doesn’t mean all of these images were shot this year (many of them were), this is merely a collection of images I personally discovered in the past 12 months.

As part of the yearly tradition I wanna take this moment to say thank-you to all of you, everyone who continue to hang around on this website. Thank you for sharing your work, and encouraging the people whose work is featured here.

This is Booooooom’s sixth year! It’s kinda unbelievable to type that. Before this, the only job I ever had for more than a year was flipping burgers at McDonalds. I still love working on Booooooom every day because of you guys.

This past year Booooooom grew tremendously. Just over a year ago we launched @Booooooom on Instagram (would have done it sooner but some kid squatted on the name for three years) and already there are over 70,000 followers on there. Our Twitter and Facebook now have a combined following of nearly 250,000 and somehow our Google+ has amassed 3.5 million followers?! It’s surreal.

I can’t talk about this past year without talking about this email from a photographer named Eylül Aslan. Her email made my day (and week, and month, and year), which is why I called it “The Best Email in the Entire History of Booooooom”. Of all the things I accomplished this year, I am most proud of what’s in this email. The idea that Booooooom could affect someone’s life like that. I guess that’s really why I’m sitting here, at 6 AM (yet to sleep) writing this paragraph. I love that connecting with people, and connecting people to other people is somehow my job. It doesn’t feel like work.

I hope you enjoy this collection of images below as much as me. Thanks!

All the murals of Pow! Wow! Hawaii 2014 (Well, almost all of them)

Here is a look at almost all of the walls from the Pow! Wow! Hawaii 2014 event, courtesy of photographer Brandon Shigeta. This was by far the biggest year yet which made it nearly impossible to see every wall that was painted. Some of the images here are of walls in progress, and there are more than a few murals missing.

Have a look at most of them below! Oh, and ya gotta see Roids and Insa’s animated wall (they painted one frame a day) here.

Booooooom Submissions / January

january-submissions500

Thank you for all the great work you submitted to the December Submissions post last month. I was able to feature some great work that I might not have otherwise found and I’m still bookmarking things.

It’s really satisfying to see lots of you leaving encouraging comments and upvoting the work you like. That’s the whole point!

This is the January Submissions post, please share your work here during the month of January. The comments are enabled to allow images so make sure post an image along with a link to your website.

Submission guidelines:

1. Please don’t flood the comments with a dozen images, just post 1 image that represents your best work along with 1 link.

2. If you see good work posted by someone upvote it so it appears at the top. This is not just a nice thing to do, it helps me see what work you actually like.

3. You can/should also encourage people who are sharing good work here! Comment on their posts and let them know you like what they’re doing. I really want to foster a community here, and this is a simple way you can connect with other people making work.

4. Keep in mind your post may not show up right away because it has an image attached. It may need to be manually approved first so don’t freak out and post a million times, once is enough.
