The Booooooom Creative Job Board

Booooooom art design jobs

If you’re a creative looking for work, or a company looking to hire, we are excited to announce our very own creative job board: Booooooom Jobs. Graphic design jobs, curatorial positions in galleries, freelance animation gigs, a wide variety of opportunities to work in a creative field!

A couple of examples: Our friends at Society6 are looking for a Creative Director, and Skillshare have posted openings for both a Content Producer and Senior Product Designer.

To start, we’re focusing on three cities (New York, Los Angeles, and Vancouver) and will also be posting remote jobs (for those of you who prefer to work from home). All job postings are free for the rest of the month if you use the PROMO CODE: ‘friends’.

Banksy’s Latest Work: “Walled Off Hotel” in Bethlehem

Photos via Channel 4

Banksy’s latest art installation is a fully functional hotel where you can actually book a stay! Located in Bethlehem beside the cement barrier that separates Israel and Palestine, the Walled Off Hotel features things like the “worst view in the world” and barracks-style accommodations with complimentary earplugs and shared bathroom.

Of course, there’s also the option to stay in a guest room customized by the artist himself as well as other rooms outfitted by artists Sami Musa and Dominique Petrin (with more to follow). While a collection of notable contemporary Palenstinian artists will have their work on display in an additional gallery curated by historian and critic Ismal Duddera, the project is not aligned with any political movement. People from all sides of the conflict will be warmly welcomed and no fanaticism will be tolerated.

The hotel starts taking reservations March 11th and opens officially on March 20th. Click here for more information and check out more images below!

Book Giveaway: Chromaphilia by Stella Paul

Phaidon is releasing a new book all about colour and art. Written by author and art historian Stella Paul, Chromaphilia invites readers to consider the many ways that colour has been theorized and utilized to express meaning and emotion throughout different time-periods and cultures.

Each chapter of the book covers a specific colour (Red, Blue, Purple, Gold, Yellow, Green, White, Grey and Black), and offers insight, artwork and anecdotes you probably didn’t know. Like how Yves Klein’s obsession with a particular shade of blue led him to develop his own customized (and patented) paint. Or how many crushed bugs it used to take to make the coveted red dye used for royal garments. (The answer is 70,000!)

Check out more images from Chromaphilia below or grab yourself a copy when it’s released on March 13th. We also have one to give away! To snag the book, simply post a link to any Booooooom article in the comment section below and write 1 sentence about the artist’s use of colour.

The winner will be selected in two weeks!

Booooooom Reader Submissions: November

november-600

For those of you who are new around here, this is the way to submit your work to be considered for a post on Booooooom.

Thank you to everyone for up-voting work and leaving positive comments on these posts! It really does pump people up, and ultimately helps me see what work you like. These monthly posts get a lot of traffic so even if your work is ultimately not a fit for Booooooom it still gets seen, and can send lots of eyeballs to your own websites.

Please share your work here this month. The comments allow images to be attached so make sure post an image along with a link to your website.

Submission guidelines:

1. Please don’t flood the comments with a dozen images, just post 1 image that represents your best work along with 1 link.

2. If you see good work posted by someone upvote it so it appears at the top. This is not just a nice thing to do, it helps me see what work you actually like.

3. You can/should also encourage people who are sharing good work here! Comment on their posts and let them know you like what they’re doing. I really want to foster a community here, and this is a simple way you can connect with other people making work.

4. Keep in mind your post may not show up right away because it has an image attached. It may need to be manually approved first so don’t freak out and post a million times, once is enough.

Photographer Benedict Redgrove Given Unprecedented Access to NASA Technology

wired6

Photographer Benedict Redgrove has been granted unprecedented access to document past and present NASA technology, a sneak peek of which can be seen in the new issue of WIRED UK.

Six years in the making, Redgrove captures everything from the space shuttle Atlantis and Vehicle Assembly Building, to the new Orion Crew Module, robot Valkyrie R5 and Boeing’s Starliner capsule. In fact the project is still ongoing, as it’s meant to culminate with the launch of the new SLS rocket in 2018.

Check out more images from “Past and Present Dreams of the Future” below.
