Heavy Pencil
This Friday, Heavy Pencil is going down at the ICA Bar in London! It’s a monthly event where amazing illustrators are invited to draw live, in response to music. This month’s guests are Sac Magique and Ville Savimaa! You are stupid if you don’t show up for this.
Institute of Contemporary Art (Bar). Friday. 8PM. Free.
HUH. Magazine
Another rad publication arrived at my house this week, HUH. Magazine. It’s a color newsprint magazine packed with art and photography. If you take a look at the top right corner, you’ll notice the best part – it’s FREE.
You can find it in bookshops and galleries in London, Stockholm, NY, Chicago and Paris and if you want to order it online all you pay is postage! I was stoked to see Jerry Hsu’s photography featured in this issue (side note: his part in Bag of Suck is one of the greatest of all time).
Modèle Puissance
Julien Kedryna, from the drawing collective Modèle Puissance, just let me know about about the collective’s brilliant new book, Random. There are 100 copies of the book and they intentionally made more drawings than what are featured in any one copy of the book, so only 80 of the 100 books will have the same drawing. The drawings also appear in a completely different order, so each one has a new neighbor in each book.
It gets better, the books feature six different types of paper which allow the viewer to identify each artist, and 20 of the 100 books feature the original drawings! Amazing!
Mark Batty Books
The nice people over at Mark Batty just sent over a nice selection of books! This first one is Notations 21, a collection of illustrated musical scores.
