Giveaway: Cecilia Camera Straps

cecilia-camerastraps

This week I’m giving away four camera straps courtesy of Cecilia. A little bit about the straps:

“The full-grain leather is selected from premium Argentinian cowhides. The hides are finished in the USA with surface treatments that give the leather its durability. The alpaca textiles are handwoven by weavers in the Peruvian highlands. The backstrap loom weaving techniques and traditional patterns are a heritage of Andean culture. Sourced from mills in the USA, the reinforced webbing runs through the ends of the straps to ensure strength and reliability. The straps are assembled in León, Mexico. We work with some of the most experienced artisans of leather goods to craft a product of The Americas.”

If you’d like to snag one of these camera straps, leave a comment below and upload a photo you have taken recently. I’ll let the folks at Cecilia pick their four favourite images in two weeks (4 different winners).

Booooooom Submissions / April

APRIL-600

It’s the start of a new month so that means we are accepting your art submissions through a new post! Thank you all for submitting your work to the March Submissions post. As always thank you to everyone who takes the time to encourage artists who submit work with comments and upvotes. This is the reason why I like taking submissions this way, it means even work that I don’t feel is a fit for the site can still be seen and artists still finding their way can be given a boost.

This is the April Submissions post, please share your work here during the month of April. The comments allow images to be attached so make sure post an image along with a link to your website.

Submission guidelines:

1. Please don’t flood the comments with a dozen images, just post 1 image that represents your best work along with 1 link.

2. If you see good work posted by someone upvote it so it appears at the top. This is not just a nice thing to do, it helps me see what work you actually like.

3. You can/should also encourage people who are sharing good work here! Comment on their posts and let them know you like what they’re doing. I really want to foster a community here, and this is a simple way you can connect with other people making work.

4. Keep in mind your post may not show up right away because it has an image attached. It may need to be manually approved first so don’t freak out and post a million times, once is enough.

“Love From Hawaii” Free Encouragement Project

lovefromhawaii-1

If you’ve been following along on Instagram you already know that I’m in Honolulu right now for this year’s Pow! Wow! Hawaii event. The last two years I painted murals, but this year I wanted my contribution to be a little different.

This year I want to include people who can’t physically come to Hawaii so I’m launching a free encouragement project. It’s really simple, if you’re in need of some encouragement ask for it in the comments below.

Tell me why you need the encouragement, be specific, and include your mailing address. I’ll be walking around Hawaii this week meeting people and asking them to write some words of encouragement on postcards, in response to the comments on this post.

The first 100 messages will be written on a set of beautiful postcards given to me by my friend James Jean. If you’re interested the set will be released by Chronicle Books on February 25th. At the end of the week I will mail out all the postcards.

I’m not sure how many people will actually ask for free encouragement but if I get through the first 100 I’ll buy more postcards and continue on. So who wants some free encouragement?

Booooooom Project: #FriendlyGangSigns

friendlygangsigns-500

Today we launch a new Booooooom project #FriendlyGangSigns.

Here are the instructions:

1. Use your hands to make letters and take photos of them.

2. Arrange the photos to spell out a message. It could be something funny, your New Year’s resolution, life motto, a love letter, anything. You can certainly make something more creative than the two images here (I spent a grand total of 10 minutes making them).

3. Share your magnificent creation on Instagram, and be sure to hashtag #FriendlyGangSigns and tag @Booooooom.

Please submit square format photos. There’s a free app called framemagic that allows you to arrange a 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, even a 5×5 square. Another option is to just screenshot your camera roll.

You can use filters, but don’t go overboard.

The most creative, funny, thought-provoking, submissions will be shared on Booooooom. Two winners will be picked on January 20th and each will snag the entire collection of tees I designed for Aritzia.
