Spotlight: Ken Diamond

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting up with the amazingly talented, Ken Diamond in his Vancouver studio. Ken makes things out of leather, and he makes them all by hand! People are really buzzing about his work, and his moccasins were recently featured in Hobo Magazine.

One of the first things he showed me were the moccasins and as I ran my fingers over all the little details, I realised that the beauty of his leather work could only be fully appreciated in person. Sadly the internet is only optimized for two of the five senses, so your Ken Diamond experience is limited to the 20 or so photos I took during my visit.

Polaroid Love!

A ton of awesome work has been submitted to both Booooooom Projects so far, so if you haven’t already browsed the Project Galleries, you’re really missing out. Kalli sent me a couple gorgeous photos last week for Booooooom Project #2 and I quickly emailed her back to see if she had any more I could see. She actually went to the trouble of scanning in a ton of her polaroids and even signed up at Flickr just to share them with me.

So here’s some more incentive to get involved in the projects – from time to time I will feature work, submitted to the projects, on the main page. Here’s a quick look at some great polaroid photography by Kalli Anne.

Show your face around here!

For those of you who have been commenting a bunch here and are sick and tired of your face being represented by some little pattern. Here is the solution (sorry for not posting about this earlier!) Just head over to Gravatar.com – give ‘em your email address and upload a photo. Boom. Done.

It’ll take you a minute at the most! Unless of course you have to take a photo of yourself from the perfect angle, transfer it from your camera, and then photoshop out your acne! If that’s the case you might consider uploading one of these four images as your profile pic instead…

Stefan Sagmeister

Earlier this year, designer Stefan Sagmeister released his book “Things I have Learned In My Life So Far” to much acclaim and much criticism. I have to laugh at all the people who hate on Sagmeister just for being in the privileged position to make work for fun and still have people buy it. I finally got my hands on the book and I am really enjoying it so far! I guess it’s not actually a book – it’s actually 15 separate little zines each with a different image that can been viewed through the open slots of the front cover.

56 megapixel camera!

I don’t want to turn this blog into a gadget blog but I know there are a lot of photo enthusiasts browsing the site and The Leaf AFi 10 camera just sounds ridiculously cool. 56×36 mm true wide frame, 56 megapixels, and can shoot up to iso800. Oh, did I mention this baby’s got a 6x7cm touch screen so you can view a true 1:1 raw image?!

A Reason To Believe.

Absolutely stunning photography by Christian Weber, from a series called “A Reason To Believe”. It is impossible to spend less than 5 minutes looking at his portfolio (I tested this theory in a lab, it is scientifically impossible).
