Mike Hunter

Take one look at Mike Hunter’s photography and try to tell me his miniatures don’t look insanely real. Well, you’d be half right. Hunter hasn’t mastered the skill of creating life-like miniatures, he has mastered the skill of capturing a real-life place and creating the illusion that it is a miniature. I’ll let you take a minute to re-read that sentence. Was that the sound of your mind exploding?

What you are looking at is a real place. Those “figurines” are actually actors dressed as toy soldiers (complete with fake stands their feet). Hunter utilizes a miniaturizing technique called “tilt shift photography” and selects locations based on their “already artificial quality”.

Downtown Brooklyn just got a little taste of cheap Swedish furniture and it came in the form of a giant Ikea box! What a great concept!

New Pigeon John!

Last week my good buddy Pigeon John had a show here in Vancouver. He put me and a friend on the guestlist so I thought I’d return the favour by taping the show and putting it on the net. Here’s some highlights from the show, which includes a new song called “So Gangster” (Booooooom! Exclusive!)

Sometimes I hear people hating on him because he’s too silly or he’s joking around or whatever but you people need to lighten UP. You’ll see in the clip he does this “Pigeon Dance” where he is clapping like a fool, and he does that kind of stuff to really humble himself on stage – so he knows that he’s always out there giving it all he’s got (I’ve heard him talk about it). He’s got no ego. This is what performing should be about.

Make sure you get out and see him live! Sorry about my filming, I was getting my dance on and trying to shoot at the same time.

Booooooom is growing!

We are growing at an alarming rate! I am sorry about the site being down for a bit there, we had a little hiccup – the site had waaaaaaay (7 a’s) more hits than I thought we would get in our first week and we actually smashed the server that we are hosted on! We are working on moving it to the best server possible so it won’t happen again!

Skateboards and laserbeams!

Keeping with the laser theme my good friend, Damion Silver sent me over some sample photos of the laser-etched skateboards he created. I believe there will be an extremely limited run available on Digital Gravel next week! Stay tuned! Now all we need is some sharks with frickin’ lasers attached to their heads.

Have a look at the full board after the jump!
