Booooooom Submissions / September

Here is this month’s submission post! I can’t believe there were nearly 1400 comments on the August Submissions post. I love seeing all the encouraging comments to one another! Keep it up.

This is the best way to submit your work to be considered for a post on Booooooom. Thanks again to everyone for up-voting work you like, it really encourages artists in this community and helps me see what work you like. I encourage you to share your work here because these posts get a lot of traffic and even if your work is not a fit for Booooooom it still gets seen, and definitely sends traffic to your own websites.

Please share your work here this month. The comments allow images to be attached so make sure post an image along with a link to your website.

Submission guidelines:

1. Please don’t flood the comments with a dozen images, just post 1 image that represents your best work along with 1 link.

2. If you see good work posted by someone upvote it so it appears at the top. This is not just a nice thing to do, it helps me see what work you actually like.

3. You can/should also encourage people who are sharing good work here! Comment on their posts and let them know you like what they’re doing. I really want to foster a community here, and this is a simple way you can connect with other people making work.

4. Keep in mind your post may not show up right away because it has an image attached. It may need to be manually approved first so don’t freak out and post a million times, once is enough.

Craftsy: Mixed Media – Pen, Ink & Watercolor

Our quality sponsor this week is Craftsy which provides resources for all you aspiring artists out there. We’ve been working with them to offer free classes and eGuides but this week Craftsy is offering a paid class for FREE! This is something they don’t normally do.

For the next two days you can enroll in the “Mixed Media: Pen, Ink & Watercolor” class for free! The class covers the fundamentals of using color, creating washes, tones, and drybrush textures.

If you’re interested in any of this, you should try the Mixed Media: Pen, Ink & Watercolor class for free.

Booooooom Summer (Ender) Mix: “Truly Madly Deeply II”

*Stickying this post for the weekend – thanks to everyone who came out to the party last night!

Of course now that summer is over I actually get the summer mix, so now it’s a summer ender mix. It actually has nothing to do with summer; this is my version of a club mix. It’s the sequel to this mix, and there’s a lot of bad language (mom).

Download it while you can, the FBI removed my last mix from SoundCloud. You can stream and/or download it below.

Hopefully you were able to download/stream it while it was up, unfortunately a certain record label filed a claim and the track has now been removed from Soundcloud.

Drawing On The Past: Eben Haines

Here’s another terrific submission to our “Drawing On The Past” project with Herschel Supply. Thank you to Eben Haines!

He writes: “It’s hard to write something like this without sounding overly sentimental or hackneyed but my younger brother has always been a model for me. Despite being diagnosed with dyslexia when he was six, by twenty he maintains a fluency in three foreign languages and can read and write in several others. I doubt he knows, but his resiliency and determination have fed my efforts since we were kids, and his support and inspiration have been a driving force in forming the artist I am today.

Drawing On The Past: Maria Nguyen

Here’s another gorgeous submission to our “Drawing On The Past” project with Herschel Supply. Thank you to Maria Nguyen! I featured her work (see here) after she submitted back in April.

She writes: “This is Linh Nguyen, my sister. Growing up with Linh was not the easiest thing in the world because of her illness. She would constantly follow me around and did everything I did. I constantly got annoyed but looking back I realized her willingness to learn and explore was like no other. I am still trying to learn how to be like her every day. Thanks to her I see the tremendous value of human life and the importance of not taking people for granted.”

Craftsy: Figure Drawing Class

This is a sponsored post for Craftsy which provides educational videos for creatives. I wouldn’t publish this if I hadn’t tried out this class myself and felt it was worth your time. I work hard to find sponsors that are a fit and turn down a lot of opportunities that aren’t.

Craftsy is offering a Free Figure Drawing class that teaches you the basics; things like blocking in, contour lines, and methods for describing light and shadow. I’ve actually wanted to do a series of tutorial videos for Booooooom with different artists (something I might still do) for people who haven’t gone to art school. Anyways, I think it’s definitely worth checking out if you want to brush up on some fundamentals. I learned a couple tricks from the videos and it cost me nothing.

If you want, sign up for the free Figure Drawing class.
