Bruce Brubaker on Philip Glass

In this video by Mitch Moore, Iowa-born pianist Bruce Brubaker performs Philip Glass’s “Metamorphosis 2” and talks about the significance Glass’s work. Having played and studied Glass’s music for over 20 years, Brubaker stresses Glass’s belief that art isn’t the sole property of the person who creates it but is, rather, completed by the people who take it in. See the video below.

Artist Profile: Composer Mark Mothersbaugh and his Vast Collection of Synths

Cool Hunting offers a delightful peek into the creative headquarters of DEVO founder, Mark Mothersbaugh. The award-winning Hollywood composer has accumulated quite a collection of synths; I feel like Moog fans would have a heart attack if they stepped foot inside this building.

This is worth watching if for no other reason than to know what “we smell sausage” becomes when its played backwards! Mothersbaugh is crazy in the most lovable way; I really hope that the Mark Mothersbaugh-designed theme park Wes Anderson talked about will become a reality. Really enjoyed this. Music Video: Woodkid “The Golden Age” Featuring Max Richter “Embers”

“The Golden Age” is the final single and video from Woodkid’s debut album, and it is a stunner. He collaborated with composer Max Richter here so the music you hear is actually a blending of “The Golden Age” with a new version of Richter’s “Embers”.

Woodkid, whose real name is Yoann Lemoine, is simply operating on an entirely different level from everyone else. The guy’s only 31; he releases a concept album in a time where most artists are only concerned with singles, directs all his own videos (all of which were brilliant), oh, and found time to be Pharrell’s creative director.

I love his choice for the album’s videos to slowly change from really slick, effects-heavy, spectacles to the exact opposite. This is the type of video that gets me excited about photography.

Watch “The Golden Age” below.
