One of my favourite artists David Horvitz has a cheeky new project. He is attempting to make his $58,000 worth of student debt disappear into thin air, 58 cents at a time! Read more about it, here.
If you are familiar with the work of David Horvitz then you know what to expect from his new book “Everything That Can Happen In A Day”. It is like a more meditative version of Miranda July’s “Learning to Love You More” project. He kindly sent over a copy for me, and it came with an extra copy so I could give it away!
On the weekend I hopped over to Fillip to hear Brooklyn-based artist, David Horvitz speak. His collaborator Mylinh Trieu Nguyen beamed in via ichat and they spoke about their work in a really intimate setting. It was so inspiring! One of the projects they spoke about is called 100 $1 Grants which allows anyone to email and apply for a $1 grant to help launch any sort of creative project (you can still apply)! I love this idea.
I asked David if he’d ever experimented with fax machines (I had a hunch he had). He said he would use Google to find random fax numbers in different cities and then find out what time the sun would set in each city. Then he’d send over a fax that simply stated “Today the sun will set at 5:45pm”, in an effort to interrupt someone’s daily routine and perhaps encourage them to go watch the sun set.
David has an awesome Tumblr blog with daily creative projects to get involved in! Bookmark it now!
