Rene Almanza
Fantastic drawings by Rene Almanza. I really like the cross-hatching style he introduces and the looseness of his line work is masterful. There is such a fluidity and energy to it all – I would love to see him draw live.

Head over to Your Face Blog, email Damien Weighill, and he’ll draw your face! Maybe your face will even get published in his zine! Damien just posted face illustration #265 – that’s dedication. I snooped around the site and found a link to his portfolio (CSI should hire me), some really great work over there too.
Not too long ago, Kristina threw me a quick little email with a link to her portfolio (if you send over a link to your work please be patient with me, my inbox has been flooded lately!!!) and what a fabulous portfolio it was. Perfectly bizarre little portraits of people and great color pallets. I particularly liked the “personal work” section of her site:
That sound that you are hearing outside your window is the sound of all your neighbors’ heads simultaneously exploding because they arrived at this page a few minutes before you did, and they have already clicked the “more” button. Be careful, I suggest scrolling slowly when you get to the next page. These illustrations by Vasco Mourao incredible. The subject matter reminds me of Howl’s Moving Castle and I would love love love to see this work animated.
I came across illustrator Aleks Sennwald on The Lumper yesterday and found my way onto Sennwald’s blog where I spotted this great little drawing of Batman.
I am going to admit to you all now that I failed Red, which was the third level of swimming at the time. I don’t think they use a color system now, but I am sure they still require you to be able to stay above the water – or as those buoyant people like to call it “treading water”. I guess I should thank all my elementary school friends for having all of their birthday parties at the wave pool (a.k.a. Hell) because eventually I was able to teach myself to tread water.
I came across the work of Sam Green recently and despite my childhood of tsunami-like birthday parties, I found them to be quite beautiful. These are pencil on paper, folks. Real talent.
Possibly the most ridiculous, and simultaneously awesome, caricatures in existence. Brandon Bird likes to draw celebrities in outrageous poses or stick them in bizarre situations, both to great comic effect. The John Tesh illustration (after the jump) is one of the funniest things I have ever seen.
I present the amazingly detailed illustrations of Aurel Schmidt. I need a large print of this peacock drawing, framed, on my wall, now!
