Oh Canada!

Great animation from 1978 gives you an idea what we look like here in Canada. I think  the face at the 28-second mark is pretty close to my face, just imagine a smaller nose, gold fronts, and an eye patch.

My friend Andre posted this video and it made me want to go back and find all the other great films  that the Nation Film Board has produced over the years.

Tyler Stout

I finally figured out why the Flight of the Conchords album artwork is so awesome. It is because Tyler Stout illustrated it – AKA the guy who made that insane poster for John Carpenter’s The Thing – AKA the greatest movie poster in the history of mankind.

Handmade by Cisma

Handmade was a 6 minute short created in 2007, by Cisma aka Denis Kamioka (who also directed the Black Thin King animation a couple posts below). I don’t know how I missed this one, it is incredible! I would love to see a full length with this style. The best part is it was co-written by Herbert Baglione!

Stanley Kubrick Interview

This is why the internet is awesome, I was able to dig up a real gem for you today – Stanley Kubrick interviewed by Jeremy Bernstein in 1966! It’s a whopping 90 minutes! You might have to be fairly interested in his work to care about this, but I am always interested to hear creative people talk about their work.

Yann Lebec

How about a collection of 1950’s film posters re-illustrated by Yann Lebec. No? Too bad! I’m forcing them on you. These are so AWESOME. I have to admit that I do have a little bit of an obsession with film posters.

Mankind Is No Island

Sydney-based film makers Jason van Genderen (director), Shane Emmett (producer), and John Roy (music composer)  created an amazing short that just won $20,000 and Best Film at Tropfest NY 2008 (which I believe is the world’s largest short film festival). The best part is that it was shot on a total budget of $57, and captured using cellphones, nothing else!
