Justin Longoz wants everyone to know Vancouver is shaped like a giant thumbs up (it actually is). He made these shirts to raise money for Megaphone Magazine, Vancouver’s non-profit street paper based in the Downtown Eastside. Megaphone is sold on the street by homeless and low-income Vancouverites, giving them a voice and an economic opportunity. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the magazine.
Justin has given me two t-shirts to give away! Leave a comment below and tell me which part of the city is the best! I’ll pick a winner on Friday! You should also buy a shirt to support the cause, and if you win one give it to a friend!
My friend Hana rules! She’s the one in the middle, then on the left, then on the right. She’s the one I dedicated the first two Booooooom mixes to (here and here).
She spent the last couple years traveling the world, shooting “switcheroos”, portraits of people swapping clothes. After she’d shot more than 200 of them, and had them appear on every blog imaginable, she decided to put together a book.
Well, she’s finally released her “Switcheroo Book”, and the best news for you guys is that I have a copy to give away! I’ve been sent hundreds of books since I started this site and I can honestly say this is one of my absolute favourites. She spared no expense producing this thing, and the final product is gorgeous.
If you’d like to snag the book, take a couple minutes to read my short interview with her below, and then leave her am encouraging message in the comments! I’ll pick a winner in two weeks (July 12th). This is open to everyone!
Read the Interview below!
This week’s giveaway comes from one of the first supporters of Booooooom, Monster Children. My Australian friends have been expanding, they recently moved part of their operation to LA, and now they’re shipping from within Canada too!
So we’re gonna hook up 4 of you with subscriptions! The first issue you’ll get is this one, which features original artwork by Mark Gonzales.
If you’d like this mag to start magically appearing at your door, leave a comment below with a link to your favourite post on Booooooom from 2013 so far!
Coinciding with James Jean’s show at New York City’s Tilton Gallery earlier this year, was the release of his “Parallel Lives” book. The limited edition of 1,000 signed and numbered books sold out in a single day.
Soon after that James mysteriously vanished. While the artist remains underground, his publisher Pressure Printing has just released an electronic version of his catalog. This version comes with an additional 179 behind-the-scenes process images, I like seeing how his work changes as he goes.
I have a digital copy to give away! If you wanna snag it, leave a haiku message to James in the comments below!
(Lots more images below as well!)
Sigur Rós will appear on The Simpsons this Sunday (love this poster) but the better news for Vancouverites they play here on the 27th.
I’ve snagged two pairs of tickets to give away, courtesy of Live Nation. If you wanna go, leave a comment below describing your favourite episode of The Simpsons.
