Detective Jason Harvey has worked as an NYPD forensic sketch artist for 10 years but after catching the attention of Fort Gansevoort Gallery owner, Adam Shopkorn, he now has his own series, “Fantasy Composites,” to display. Although these graphite sketches are imaginary portraits (since the real precinct sketches can’t be shown in a gallery setting), they showcase the same technique and detail Harvey puts into his work. Wonderful series of photorealistic drawings by Minneapolis, Minnesota-based artist Melissa Cooke. Based on photographs Cooke took of herself, the closely cropped images are an experiment in traditional portraiture and personal reflections on feeling overwhelmed in a new place.
