Paintings by Honolulu-based Japanese artist Yumiko Glover.
The full length Pow! Wow! Hawaii 2013 video has arrived! It’s kinda devastating to watch this sunny footage in the dead of winter but at least it will heat your face.
It’s kinda wild to think about the amount of art that has been produced in this one small area of Honolulu over the last few years. An artless area of the city has been completely transformed into a mecca for public art. This is my favourite art event every year and the really exciting thing is my friends have plans to bring this event to other cities now, so this is only the beginning.
If you missed it, I shared most of the 2013 murals in a giant blog post here. Enjoy the video below!
As if running a huge annual arts festival wasn’t enough, my friends out in Hawaii have also launched the POW! WOW! “School of Music”.
Earlier this year they partnered with Flexfit to organize free music classes for youth ages 13-18, and are now looking to make it a year-round thing. Take a look at the video below, and if you’re a talented musician, maybe you’ll wanna get involved as a teacher at next year’s event!

Here’s a look at many of the murals painted at Pow Wow Hawaii 2013, in the Kakaako district of Honolulu. The event saw over 100 local and international artists descend upon the area and cover it with art. All photos by Brandon Shigeta.
You can see larger images of the mural I painted here.
