Shot in Ultra-High-Definition, Pleasant Places (2015) is London-based visual artist Quayola’s contemporary response to Vincent van Gogh: a series of digital paintings that morph and shift into various abstractions using custom-software. Watch the mesmerizing results in the short video below!
JK Keller re-appropriated standard software to distort the audio and visuals of popular television shows. Posted on YouTube with titles like “NEw alGOriTHm USed To RemastEr seInfEld epIsoDeS iN hD” and “STar trEk TO bE RErelEAsed iN VERtIcAL CINeMa ForMat (coMMErciAl),” Keller explores the concept of manipulation, socially as much as technologically.
See some of Keller’s work below, including Realigning My Thoughts on Jasper Johns, his 2011 re-mastering of the entire Simpsons episode “Mom and Pop Art.”
The Simpsons will now be shown widescreen (HD) and to celebrate this they finally made some changes to their intro! Granted I haven’t watched the show for several seasons now (and the movie was an utter disappointment) it is still fun to spot all the little additions of new references and characters. The episode has already aired on the east coast and will air here in a couple hours.
