In honour of the imminent release of The Force Awakens aka the movie that has already taken over the Internet, here are some digitally created faux-marble sculptures by a French artist who goes by the name Travis Durden (a reference to two of his favourite movies). The heads are, of course, those of iconic Star Wars characters while the bodies have been repurposed from various masterpieces at the Louvre. Check out more of Durden’s unique mash-ups below!
Ophir Kutiel aka Kutiman, is the Youtube generation’s DJ Shadow. He scours Youtube for obscure musical treasures; kids playing piano, guitar tutorials, anything he can use to make a song. Somehow he is able to weave the unrelated clips into something completely new. I’ve blogged about him numerous times but it all started with his project Thru You.
5 years later, Kutiman is set to release his follow up, Thru You Too, and his first single “Give It Up” is a masterpiece. Watch the video below!
Last summer it was Girltalk, this summer it’s all about The Hood Internet. I actually paid for the second Girltalk album (what was I smoking?) and nearly had a brain hemorrhage when he started cutting up Avril Lavigne. What happened to mixes that actually maintained a flow and actually let a track breathe for a bit? I guess everyone and their helper monkeys are mash-up djs now but The Hood Internet are legit – I mean they got a mixtape with all mashes of Lykke Li songs! I have linked a few of their mixtapes (Grab the Chicago one, thank me later.) And yes, they let the blends last for longer than 3.14 seconds.
