Marlon Kowalski

Found some work by Marlon Kowalski and I have absolutely zero information about him. I really like a series on his site where he takes coloured plates and sticks them in places, and photographs them. Like this little red plate below, it’s actually tied to the branches of the tree!

Ye Rin Mok

I recently discovered the photography of Ye Rin Mok, who has shot for the likes of Anthen, Nylon, Tokion, Theme, Spin, Monocle, and the list really does go on. Looking through Mok’s portfolio I discovered a large number of the photos in which the subject is actually facing away from the camera. I found the gallery jarring, and really quite powerful.

I took a class in art school called Vision, Perception and Science and we learned that there is a little sensor in the brain that is constantly looking for faces. This is why the bumper and headlights on a car look like a smiling face, and also why there is such tension in these photos. There are no faces in these portraits. MORE…

Noah Kalina

Do you remember the guy who took a photo of himself everyday for 6 years and turned it into a video on Youtube? That guy was Noah Kalina and his video now has over 10 million views. For whatever reason I never looked into who he was and only discovered recently that he is actually an amazing photographer and not just some “youtube guy”.

André Pinces

Great fashion photography by Vancouver’s own André Pinces. I met him last year and have yet to meet a nicer guy. Actually, you’d be hard pressed to meet him at all, with the schedule he’s got going on. When he’s not out creating personal work, he’s running around shooting for many international publications, including Surface, Vice, and US Weekly.

NYC through a Holga.

I was wandering around Flickr recently and ended up spending a lot of time clicking through some great little photographs by Paris-based graphic designer, Stephanie *. If you’ve ever used a Holga to shoot anything you know it’s somewhat of a crapshoot until you’ve shot rolls and rolls and you have a good feel for the focus.
