Artist Profile: Haroshi

When I was out in Tokyo last year for Pow! Wow! my friends and I went out to visit Japanese artist Haroshi at his studio (his photo of us) and he gifted me this bullet made out of skateboards. I chose from a whole bunch and he could immediately tell what decks he’d used to make it based on the colours. I believe this one was made out of old Enjo boards. Anyways he’s one of my favourite artists and Alexander Mitchell just released a nice video portrait of him working in his studio which you can watch on Booooooom TV.

Ones to Watch: An Interview with Atlanta-based Adam Alexander aka Demo Taped

Adam Alexander is one to watch. The 17-year-old Atlanta native is making music under the name Demo Taped, and while he’s no household name yet, people are starting to take notice. The first single off of his debut EP,  “I Luv U” is the definition of feel good music and has been stuck in my head all summer long.

Read the full interview, and listen to more of his music, below.

Video of the Day: Kinabuhi – A Portrait of Filipino Coconut Farmers

Filmmaker Danny Cooke’s short documentary, Kinabuhi, is a beautiful portrait of a group of Filipino coconut farmers whose livelihood is in doubt. Plenty of gorgeous shots in this short documentary to draw you right in. I was immediately struck by how dangerous these farmers jobs are, and there is just something so satisfying about watching people with a mastery of very specific skills. The man in the image above is casually climbing a tree cutting little footholds as he goes.

Watch Kinabuhi below.
