New sound installation by Swiss artist Zimoun (previously featured here and here), at Knockdown Center, in New York. The exhibition is part of 3 concurrent solo exhibitions in New York (Bitforms gallery NYC, Knockdown Center NYC, and Simons Gallery for Geometry and Physics at the Stony Brook University). Zimoun often utilizes cotton balls and cardboard boxes but this piece is made of rope and wood.
Love to experience this piece in person. Watch the video below.
A couple years ago I wrote about Taylor Holland’s Fra[mes] project in which he digitally manipulated ornate frames from the Louvre. He since partnered with Sainthill Lijsten, who do restoration work and framing for large institutions like the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to create real versions of the absurd frames.
Here are six antique frames filled with repeated elements from the frames themselves, using custom molds built from the digital images. See the rest below.
Studio Markunpoika (Tuomas Markun Poika) is producing vases made out of hundreds of pencils in a series called “Amalgamated”. The writing utensils are treated as raw materials, glued together, and shaped with a lathe. There is something so satisfying about watching the video below!
