Smile On Your Brother!
I went down to Livestock for the Smile On Your Brother show last night and snapped some photos. It’s up for two more nights – so you better catch it while you can. If you see a board you want, you can contact Annie or Mike here and place a bid. The auction closes near the end of October.
Smile On Your Brother!
My good friend Bob Kronbauer has teamed up with Mike Giles and Annie Lam, founders of a Canadian charity called Contributor, to curate an art show called “Smile On Your Brother”. The show features 50 hand crafted, oak skateboards covered with art by artists from all over the world. The boards will be auctioned off, with the proceeds going towards a fund that will supply skateboards to Canadian kids who might not otherwise be able to afford them! The show opens here in Vancouver at Livestock (Gastown) on Monday, August 24th. Be there!
Artists include: Don Pendleton, Thomas Campbell, Andrew Pommier, Mike Perry, Julien Valee… you get the idea – the roster is no joke!
Skateistan!
The New York Times published an article/video last week about an Australian man named Oliver Percovich, who has worked hard for two years to create Skateistan – Afghanistan’s first skateboarding school. Hit “more” to watch the video and I’m sure you’ll be as inspired by the story as I am!
Club Mumble
I was recently asked by my friend Bob Kronbauer to be a regular contributor over on his new site, Club Mumble. Bob is the talented guy behind the Little Giants series which I mentioned before and I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of his latest project.
To give you an idea of the Club Mumble roster, let me just rattle off a few names: Michael Leon, Thomas Campbell, Don Pendleton, Angela Boatwright, Geoff McFetridge, Andrew Pommier, Kevin Lyons, Todd Bratrud… you get the idea, this list is no joke. If you’re into the art/skate scene you’ll want to bookmark it immediately.
