Booooooom Reader Submissions: September

sept

Here is this month’s submission post! Thank you for all your amazing submission to the August Submissions post and as always, keep those encouraging comments to one another coming!

This is the best way to submit your work to be considered for a post on Booooooom. Thanks again to everyone for up-voting work you like, it really encourages artists in this community and helps me see what work you like. I encourage you to share your work here because these posts get a lot of traffic and even if your work is not a fit for Booooooom it still gets seen, and definitely sends traffic to your own websites.

Please share your work here this month. The comments allow images to be attached so make sure post an image along with a link to your website.

Submission guidelines:

1. Please don’t flood the comments with a dozen images, just post 1 image that represents your best work along with 1 link.

2. If you see good work posted by someone upvote it so it appears at the top. This is not just a nice thing to do, it helps me see what work you actually like.

3. You can/should also encourage people who are sharing good work here! Comment on their posts and let them know you like what they’re doing. I really want to foster a community here, and this is a simple way you can connect with other people making work.

4. Keep in mind your post may not show up right away because it has an image attached. It may need to be manually approved first so don’t freak out and post a million times, once is enough.

50 Fantastic Remakes of Famous Artworks (Not Featured In Our Book)

“Birth of Venus” remake by Kevin Thom

“Birth of Venus” by Sandro Botticelli

This summer we released our first-ever Booooooom book, “Remake”, chronicling our massive art project in which people all over the world re-created master works of art. Thank you to all the publications that have written about the book, the response has been unreal.

I’d like to take this opportunity to highlight a selection of the incredible submissions that did not end up in the final version of the book. In a perfect world, everyone’s work would have been printed in the book but I simply did not have the budget to secure image rights to all the original master works of art to be able to include everything (this was very painful for me during the editing process). I actually gave up my entire book advance from Chronicle Books to get the rights to as many works as I could.

Below are 50 terrific submissions to our remake project, none of which you will see as you flip through the book. Note: I arbitrarily picked the number 50 for this article; this list could probably be twice as long.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this project, I am convinced that we have the most talented (and active) creative community on the Internet. Have a look at the works below.

Booooooom x Tangible Interaction: Submissions to our Pencil Project for IAM Festival in Barcelona

Last month we launched a project to build a sculpture in Barcelona, at the IAM Festival, using pencils mailed in from all over the world. We collaborated with Vancouver-based studio Tangible Interaction to 3D-print special connectors that would allow us to connect the pencils together in a variety of ways. It was a pretty ambitious project considering we only had a few weeks to collect pencils and it would only work if we had lots.

You guys totally came through! All in all we had well over 1,000 pencils from all over the place: North and South America, Asia, Europe, Australia, India, and Sri Lanka! Thank you all for making our project in Barcelona a success! If you sent us a pencil you can now say that you have exhibited at the Design Museum of Barcelona, that’s pretty cool!

Here is a quick time lapse of people at the event building the sculpture with your pencils and a gallery of all the people who emailed in a photo of themselves. These photos represent a small fraction of all the people who took part in the project but I think it still beautifully represents the way the Internet can used to create an artwork using bits and pieces from all different countries.

Thank you everyone! Gallery of “pencil people” below!
