Free Learning of the Day: Skillshare Classes

This is for all you aspiring graphic designers out there! We’ve teamed up with Skillshare to offer you 1 month of unlimited access to all their creative classes, for $0. Free. You can sign up here for a premium account: Booooooom + Skillshare 30-day extended trial.

A couple weeks ago I started trying out different classes so I’d know first hand if any of them were worth sharing with you. After poking around a bit, I can honestly say there really is some great content on the site.

I recommend the logo design class, taught by the talented Aaron Draplin. It’s pretty fast paced (I had to pause it a couple times), and not every keyboard shortcut is explained, but I definitely learned more from watching this series of videos than I did in most of my media classes at University.

There are hundreds of classes and many talented instructors. Jeff Staple teaches a class on branding (I haven’t taken this class yet), and Jessica Hische, who famously designed the Moonrise Kingdom type, teaches another one about lettering. I’m halfway through her class, and I’ve really enjoyed it so far.

If you never went to design school or you just want to brush up on some basics this could be what you’re looking for. Full disclosure: Skillshare did not pay us to make this post, but if you sign up through this link it will support our site! Or don’t, it’s up to you. I still recommend their site even if you don’t use our link to check it out!

High School Band Performs Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing In The Name”

The coolest high school band teacher award goes to this guy, for teaching his class Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing In The Name”.

*EDIT Chris over at Colossal found a second video which shows the band is actually George Mason University Green Machine. I’ve also replaced the original video with another one which properly credits them. I guess this makes slightly more sense since high school parents would not be very stoked on the last verse of the song – still cool though.

Watch both videos below.

Sumi ink paintings on whiteboard by Gregory Euclide
Beautiful sumi ink paintings by artist and teacher Gregory Euclide. He painted these on a whiteboard during his lunch break before wiping them clean (hard to watch that part).

Jason Lazarus

Some startlingly poetic photography from Chicago-based, Jason Lazarus. He was a photography instructor at Columbia College and I believe he still teaches/lectures at various places. The cool thing about his site is that along side his work he includes a teaching section.
