The Tree Ring / Brushbloom

I’ve written about The Tree Ring before, and for good reason – I feel like their one of the last of the secret bands out there. The ones who fly under the radar and you feel that soon might change. Known only to a gang of folks in the San Diego area, they slow the breath of anyone who sits cross legged at one of their shows, playing in secret forests, leaving clues along the way.

They make shrines of nature in their sound, swelling strings and the squeak of acoustic guitar make everything sound holy. You’ll hear Andrew Bird and Bowerbirds in them. Listen to a new track, below and watch a video on their recording process here, because it takes a village…

The Tree Ring / Hike-In Show

San Diego-based orchestral outfit The Tree Ring hosted a hike-in show in the woods off Big Laguna Trail, in a place only reachable by foot. The video was shot by  filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton whose film “I Am Not A Hipster” premiered at this year’s Sundance. The film itself loosely follows the story of Tree Ring frontman Joel P West and includes original score by Joel P as well. These guys really like to keep it in the family. Watch, below.
