Victory Gardens Vancouver Giveaway

Victory Gardens Vancouver Giveaway
I’m really excited to team up with Victory Gardens Vancouver for this giveaway. Lisa, Sam and Sandra are challenging the way our city uses space through urban farming!

They’ve hooked me up with two really cool giveaways:

1) Two Tickets to Old Faithful & Victory Gardens Workshop
This is a container gardening workshop and the focus of this event will be on tomatoes and how to grow your own pizza! The workshop takes place on June 9th, from 9:30 – 11:00AM and each participant will walk away with a handmade cedar box planted with tomato and basil.

Trace Heavens / Light installations by artist James Nizam

Trace Heavens light installations by artist James Nizam
Shard of Light, 2011

“Trace Heavens” is a series of gorgeous light installations by James Nizam. Even though he is a friend of mine I feel I am being completely unbiased when I say these are some of the most beautiful images I’ve ever posted on Booooooom. To create these images James painstakingly made incisions into the structure of a house to capture and manipulate sunlight into light sculptures.

Free Thinkers / Collage Collage

Free Thinkers / Collage Collage
There are two reasons to be excited about Lifetime’s new publication, Free Thinkers. Reason #1: This issue features my new best friend Erin Boniferro and her amazing creative space, Collage Collage. (We’ll be doing something together, stay tuned.) Reason #2: It’s FREE.

Read the article about Erin, here.

The Juice Truck (Secret)

Booooooom Poketo wallet giveaway with The Juice Truck
Heads up Vancouver, I have given the last of our Booooooom x Poketo wallets to my buddy Zach at The Juice Truck (Abbot St + Water St). Any juice or smoothie purchase gets you a FREE wallet ($20 value) but you have to ask for it, it’s not advertised anywhere!

The amount of wallets left may last a week or so? (just a guess.)

PS – Zach says they are open 11:30AM – 5:00PM everyday.

Playground

Playground.is The Human Statues, Its So Simple
There is a scene in Efterklang’s film “An Island” where the band performs with local people from a small town and although it is obvious that most of them are not musicians they are all playing instruments alongside the band. It is a beautiful scene (I admit I shed a tear the first time I watched it), and I was so inspired by it I began brainstorming ways that I could create a similar experience with bands here in Vancouver. I didn’t take the idea any further than my notepad.

Last week I discovered that some fellow Vancouverites have started doing this very thing! They call it Playground. The premise is simple: One band, one audience, one goal. Create a song together, and then record it in less than an hour.

Watch a video of the most recent Playground event below!
