Maui R.I.P.

I never took a camera with me to Hawaii because I am an idiot a light packer – so I have been creepin’ on Facebook stealing photos from friends’ albums. The place really does live up to the hype. If I can figure out how to fully waterproof my Macbook I might move back to Maui and just live underwater. Someone told me they didn’t think that would be possible but I am pretty sure they are wrong. Alternate titles for this post: “Sayonara golden tan” and “Seasonal depression starts now”.

Back to work…

Time to “advertise”

Thanks to my man Zoltron over at Sticker Robot I now have a ton of “advertisements” that need homes in highly visible, hard to reach, places.

Hawaii.

First of all, I just want to say thank you to all you regular readers of the site, you’ve really made this site something I look forward to updating everyday. Moving forward, I’m going to devote even more time to the site because, well, this baby is still growing at an alarming rate. 170,000 views in the past two months is no joke! Big thanks to all the sponsors/advertisers for helping offset my site costs.

In honor of the huge increase of spam in the comments section (none of which actually shows up thanks to the wonderful akismet plugin) and the appearance of spam text messages on my freakin cell phone (how?) I am heading to the spam capital of the world (the other kind!). If anyone needs me I’ll be getting tanned and jacked in Maui for the week.

I’ve pre-written a few posts, so there will continue to be new content posted while I’m away. As soon as I return I’ll post up the Project #3 gallery (had some great submissions already)! Oh, and keep your eyes peeled, I’ve got a bunch of fun stuff planned for the upcoming months.

Aloha.

Radiohead Vancouver was epic!

There is no photo for this post. I didn’t bring my camera, and no google image is going to do this any justice.

I just got home from the Radiohead show here in Vancouver and I am still in shock. It was incredible. I finally know now what everyone has been saying about Radiohead for years. I mean I have always liked them but I don’t think I ever really believed that OK Computer was one of the best albums ever or fully understood what all the hype was about. Until tonight.

I have seen the light. Radiohead really is the greatest band in the history of the universe. If you have experienced their live show I don’t know how you could possibly disagree with that statement. Please give me a moment to describe for you the ending of the show which was as close to a spiritual encounter as most people will ever experience.

Polaroid Love!

A ton of awesome work has been submitted to both Booooooom Projects so far, so if you haven’t already browsed the Project Galleries, you’re really missing out. Kalli sent me a couple gorgeous photos last week for Booooooom Project #2 and I quickly emailed her back to see if she had any more I could see. She actually went to the trouble of scanning in a ton of her polaroids and even signed up at Flickr just to share them with me.

So here’s some more incentive to get involved in the projects – from time to time I will feature work, submitted to the projects, on the main page. Here’s a quick look at some great polaroid photography by Kalli Anne.

Where On Earth Is Waldo?

Martin Handford is the illustrator and creator of those Waldo books that you used to lay on the floor and stare at until you had the texture of the carpet tattooed onto your elbows. He just put this illustration (below) into one of his books. Do you recognize it? If not, you don’t know who Melanie Coles is, and you somehow didn’t hear about her amazing art project: Where On Earth Is Waldo?

The project is so fabulous it is entitled to two images before the “more” button (amazing, I know). Melanie’s graduate project was to turn Google maps into a giant page from a Where’s Waldo book. She and her cohorts painted a giant Waldo and placed it on the top of an unknown building in Vancouver and waited for it to be photographed by Google’s satellite.

jenerally speaking…

Vancouver represent! Gorgeous photography from Jennilee Marigomen. I like the little details in her shots, like the small cross in this first one.
