$20 Homemade Fisheye Lens

Why pay $300 for a fisheye when you can go to Home Depot and build one for $20? My friend Ryan and I bought a peephole and a couple pieces of pvc, stuck them together with a hot glue gun, and it was done. Literally 20 minutes. I felt like Steven Seagal when he made that silencer with a 2L pop bottle in Under Siege.

Take a peek at the fishy footage and some more photos below!

Jemapur – Maledict Car

Japan’s Jemapur have a fantastic video for their song Maledict Car, directed by Kosai Sekine. To say this music video is a stunning exploitation of the kaleidoscope effect would be an understatement.

Priscilla Ahn

Le Blogotheque recently put up some great videos of Priscilla Ahn and I instantly became her biggest (and newest, and best-looking) fan. Listening to her voice is like sipping hot chocolate by the campfire. If you like this song, there’s a couple more after the jump.

Pacific Cinematheque

Jessica over at Pacific Cinematheque (great non-profit threatre here in downtown Vancouver) just let me know that on Monday October 20th (7:30pm) they will be screening some of the best work from Miranda July’s Joanie 4 Jackie Chainletter Tapes. Female filmmakers/artists were invited to submit work to July, the work was then compiled onto videotapes and mailed back out to everyone who contributed. So if you submitted something you recieved a tape of your own work along with an assortment of other artists’ work. Cool idea.

Gou Miyagi

If you came here hoping to see some skateboarding taken to a completely different level, today is your lucky day. This is some of the craziest footage I have ever seen. Highlights include Gou boardsliding a chain hanging between two posts?! Thanks to Jolin for posting this one to the Booooooom Facebook Group.

Banksy’s Pet Store!

Wooster Collective just posted some images and a fantastic video clip of Banksy’s latest show Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill. It is completely unrecognizable as Banksy work as there are no trademark stencils, no wheatpastes, no graffiti of any kind in the space. Instead there are amazing animatronic sculptures – little chicken mcnuggets drinking from a bbq sauce package, security cameras perched in a nest, fish sticks swimming in a fish bowl, hotdogs lounging in cages with mustard drinking bottles.

If you live in New York city get over to 89 7th Avenue between West 4th and Bleeker Street in the West Village! The show is up until Halloween.

Omodaka – Kyoteizinc

New video for Omodaka’s Kyoteizinc is incredible! Directed by Hiroshi Kizu and featuring the beautiful dancing of Masako Yasumoto. Serious props to Mr. Kizu, although this proves to me once again: The editor > The director.

I see some similarities between what’s happening in Asia and what’s happening in France. Glitchy-pop techno and this editing style seem to be the craze right now! Like the new windrunner ad by Nike, so obviously influenced by Justice et al. (video after the jump)

William Lamson

I have never met William Lamson but I feel like we would really get along. He takes pictures and makes wonderful little videos, and really seems to enjoy what he does. He has had solo exhibitions all over the world and currently resides in NY. What I like about his work is that there is as much humor to it as there is beauty. Some of them made me laugh and others were surreal to the point they became almost meditative. William was kind enough to upload a few of them to youtube just so I could post about them!

This first video is called Tundra. There is something really beautiful about this piece. It’s so quiet and simple. It’s like haiku poetry for your eyes.
