Radar Music Videos!

I briefly mentioned Radar Music Videos back in May. If you’d love a shot at directing music videos but don’t want to spend the next 5 years of your life getting people coffee on a film set, Radar is for you. Filmmakers pitch for commissions and labels get videos tailored to their budget. Perfect symbiosis! I was browsing the “top rated” section and came across this excellent video:

Pegz – What would Happen – Directed by Callum Cooper. Further proof that Radar has a good thing goin’.

An American Tail Remix.

Last month I posted that fabulous Alice video and this week I received an email from Jacques Christo. He was so inspired by the video that he went and made a downtempo track from his favourite animated film: An American Tail (great choice!).

“Be A N****r Too”

Three/21 Media just premiered the new Nas video for Be A N****r Too and I really want to know what people think. This video is visually quite similar to that one part of Spike Lee’s 25th Hour with the montage of hateful words. It’s quite controversial and it’s hard not to see what Nas is trying to do, but is he successful? Does this raise awareness or is it just another video with the N-word in it?

Wonderland Remixed.

Youtube user Fagottron (am I reading that right?) has quietly released a little gem onto the net. Alice in Wonderland gets the chop-shop treatment and the result is a beautiful little downtempo track called “Alice”.

Graffiti taken to the next level.

Muto by Blu. This is an astonishing work of art. I have never seen anything like this. Street art turned into a stop-motion animation on public walls in Buenos Aires and in Baden (this apparently took several months – i don’t doubt it)! I am not just impressed by the “trick” of turning graffiti into an animation, the animation itself is engaging and quite beautiful to watch. I am stunned.

3 is a Magic Number.

If you’re into Izakaya restaurants and you live in Vancouver then you know the goodness that is Guu. I met Benny there the other night, and as we dined on octopus balls and fried cheese with mango I caught up with him about what is going on these days at EA, and I learned that he was the dude behind the skate videos Bigger and Better Things and Sophomore Jinx. Another close friend of mine from my days working at EA, Tom Johnson, actually did the titles for Sophomore Jinx by drawing on napkins, letting the ink bleed, and then scanning in all the letters, transposing them onto a snowy television screen.

Today Benny hit me with a link to this video he made of Antisocial’s “3 is the Magic Number” Ramp Contest. This video is AWESOME, love the energy – these guys session the transition to pieces (how can you front on mini ramp?). Also, have a look at Sophomore Jinx, Bigger and Better Things after the jump!
