Ohbijou / New Years

Toronto-based art collective Exploding Motor Car has just released my favourite video of the year! The video is for Ohbijou’s song, New Years. The concept is brilliant, and the video is just beautiful.

Rhonda / James Paterson

This is AMAZING. James Paterson creates a drawing using Rhonda, a 3D tool designed by Amit Pitaru. I must get my hands on this!

Randy Laybourne

I had the privilege of meeting Randy Laybourne a couple weeks ago while he was painting a mural at Timebomb (thanks again for the BBQ and the tour, G!). Peep the little time-lapse video of Laybourne’s piece!

Randy gave me some little parting gifts as well!

The process of photo-weaving!

A fascinating little time-lapse of Todd M. Duym weaving two identical photos of a rose, together. The whole process took 20 hours. Definitely want to see that finished piece in person!

Jemapur – Clarte

Some pretty wild animation in this video for Japan’s Jemapur. The song is called Clarte, directed by Genki Ito.

Kutiman remixes Youtube!

This is where you scream ‘why didn’t I think of this???’ and jump off a bridge! Israeli musician Kutiman has crafted an album entirely from Youtube clips, and it is nothing short of brilliant. Dj Shadow, Mike Realm and Pb Wolf look out. Thanks to Dutch for the heads up!

Of Montreal / Id Engager

Great video for Of Montreal’s Id Engager, directed by Marc Reisbig and Hanne Berkaak (passion pictures). Always great to see hand-drawn animation getting some love! This came out a bit ago but I only saw it now, so there!

Jay Dee / 40-Piece Orchestra

AWESOME. A 40-piece orchestra interpreting the music of the late great Jay-Dee. Arrangements by Miguel Atwood Ferguson. Lots of cameos throughout – here’s Pos and Talib doin Stakes is High and then the show closing with Illa J (Dilla’s little brother) singing over Fall in Love (footage courtesy of DERT).

There was a film crew there and it looks like it will be released as a DVD! It will be a must-have (at least for me). Thanks to YesYesYall for the heads up!
