Booooooom x Capture Photography Festival: Public Art Open Call

We’re excited to announce that we’re teaming up with Capture Photography Festival, Western Canada’s largest lens-based art festival, to curate a public art installation on the facade of the King Edward Canada Line Train Station, in Vancouver. If you’re a photographer or an artist making lens-based work this could be a big opportunity for you! This is a worldwide open call to submit your work for consideration.

The chosen artist will participate in the 2020 Capture Photography Festival and their work will be featured on the Capture website and in the 2020 Capture catalogue (6,000 copies). The artist will also be featured here on Booooooom and be paid a fee of $600 CAD (adhering to standard CARFAC fees for temporary public art works in Canada).

The artwork will be installed on the large windows on the front of the station alongside an artist statement. The 3 images you see installed in the photos above are each placed on a 97″x 94″ section with 1.5″ vertical gaps between each section. The three sections combined have a total area of 294″ x 94″ which can be used to display one large image across all the panels or a series of images.  You may submit a single work or a related series of works. If you want to submit multiple works that are not related, please make multiple submissions, as multiple images in one entry will be considered as a single body of work, and the jury will take into consideration cohesiveness.

Entries are FREE for Booooooom members and Capture Photography Festival members. If you’re a Capture member, email Capture to request the submission link. All entries by non-members are subject to a fee of $10 USD paid at the time of submission.

All entries will be reviewed by Jeff Hamada, Editor-in-Chief of Booooooom, to identify a shortlist. This list will be reviewed by a jury of Capture Photography Festival and Boooooooom staff who will mutually agree upon a finalist. The chosen artist or artist group will be announced mid-January 2020.

Deadline for submissions: 11:59 PM PST on November 25, 2019
