My first film camera was a 35mm; Ricoh 500. Its a very distinctive camera. It caught my attention straight away, when I found it in a small antique shop in regional Victoria. The store-person sold it to me for $50 and I basically carry it whenever I go on small trips by myself. It's a very unique form of photography. You have to adjust the focal length, feet meter and aperture to get the correct focus and exposure. But in saying that it can become quite challenging, to constantly change and adapt the settings to the environment surrounding you, as well as the light. I have previously worked with film but didn't fully understand the elegant process, until I found this camera.
I decided to upload one of my first ever exposures captured with this camera and a self-portrait from a final project.
Shot with Kodak Gold 400.
