A joint show by Bay Area artists Meryl Pataky & Allie Felton, “Modern Guilt” is an immersive & sensory installation shown in the Fall of 2020 at Pt. 2 Gallery. The work is an exploration into a dystopian future, domestic spaces & storytelling; Recurring themes include reminders of ever-present cycles and the passage of time. Filmmaker Deb Leal uses light and still photography to immortalize Pataky & Felton while staying true to conceptual exploration. To further amplify the inspiration by Tarot, Leal used her personal deck as a guide to begin the ritual of photographing her subjects within their domain. The Empress, The Queen of Wands, and The Lovers-- cards pulled as a way to not only encapsulate the energy of these artists, but to also remind the viewer of the roles we play in the existentialist years ahead.
