    No, I don’t see a single thread of unity between the trite illustrations and the soft colorfields. Totally uninteresting.

    I disagree; there are definitely elements in these pieces where the blurred masses in the background seem to coalesce into the graphic patterns in the foreground. The two styles aren’t really harmonized though. I’ve seen enough artists juxtaposing different styles like this that what I’m really interested in seeing are different styles combined in a truly harmonic fashion, where they seem to belong naturally together.
