  • these are so great!

  • No, I don’t see a single thread of unity between the trite illustrations and the soft colorfields. Totally uninteresting.

  • I disagree; there are definitely elements in these pieces where the blurred masses in the background seem to coalesce into the graphic patterns in the foreground. The two styles aren’t really harmonized though. I’ve seen enough artists juxtaposing different styles like this that what I’m really interested in seeing are different styles combined in a truly harmonic fashion, where they seem to belong naturally together.

    SO FUCKING COOL

Artist Makes Street Repairs Using Gold

Brooklyn-based artist Rachel Sussman adapts the Japanese art of Kintsugi (golden joinery) or Kintsukuroi (golden repair) in her ongoing series “Sidewalk Kintsukuroi.” Traditionally used to fix broken pottery, gold or silver is used to embellish the repair as it is seen as part of the object’s history rather than something to hide.

In Sussman’s case, filling cracks in the pavement pays similar homage to the changes that have taken place in the world around us. See more images from the project below or on display at the Des Moines Art Center until May 5th.
