More great work from Australia, this time in the form of mixed-media illustrations by Kelly Smith.
Gorgeous paintings by Whistler BC resident, Lauren Javor. I had the privilege of showing my work along side hers as part of this year’s Brave Art Shows. I literally joined her fan club the minute I walked into the gallery and saw her work hanging on the wall.
I’ve been meaning to post about Ian Francis for awhile. He draws, paints, collages, paints again, draws some more, you get the idea. I was largely inspired by his work a couple years ago when I found myself designing lots of music packaging (my work holds a candle to Francis’ work).
Not too long ago Zoo York ran a little viral campaign with a box full of spray-painted cockroaches. They just revealed the Cockroach Artist Series boards that accompany the campaign, and they’re some of the better board graphics I’ve seen in a long time. This is mainly due to the fact that I am a big fan of Greg Lamarche! I love his hand-lettered signs.
Yasmine‘s got some competition! Kyle T. Webster has started up his own daily illustration blog. Quick little figure sketches every day aptly titled, The Daily Figure!
Last week I had the pleasure of meeting up with the amazingly talented, Ken Diamond in his Vancouver studio. Ken makes things out of leather, and he makes them all by hand! People are really buzzing about his work, and his moccasins were recently featured in Hobo Magazine.
One of the first things he showed me were the moccasins and as I ran my fingers over all the little details, I realised that the beauty of his leather work could only be fully appreciated in person. Sadly the internet is only optimized for two of the five senses, so your Ken Diamond experience is limited to the 20 or so photos I took during my visit.

I just purchased a book by a fantastic artist named Bagger43 a.k.a. Dennis Brown. I had seen his work in Juxtapoz and was stoked when he emailed to encourage me about Booooooom. Dennis was born in the Philippines and raised in Japan before landing in Florida. Now he’s working for the almighty rhino in New York. Maybe all that moving around is why his style is so eclectic.
