Artist Alfred Steiner is a rare breed—an artist and a lawyer (I believe that’s the first time I’ve written that). The New York-based artist spent 15 years working as a copyright and trademark lawyer so it’s appropriate that his art practice involves others’ intellectual property. For the past few years he’s created watercolour paintings of famous cartoon characters using a collage style; combining items you might find in a garage sale with bugs, drugs, and genitalia (heads up, there are lots of penises and other body parts below).
As you scroll through the work you may have to take a couple steps back from your screen to see the characters emerge. Squint a little, and suddenly a tazer, a crowbar, a donut and a worm are recognizable as Finn from Adventure Time.
