Love the mix of playfulness and genuine terror in these paintings by California-based artist John Brosio (previously featured here). Originally drawn to a career in film, Brosio’s cinematic flare is coupled with a much broader thoughtfulness about society and perception. As he states:
“The idea of ‘fun’ has long since given way to ‘stimulating.’ There is necessary, perpetual discontent. A wonderful discontent. Without knowing it at first we are very much programmed in the ways of viewing and it calls for navigation. Learning to paint has to do with continually learning to see and that’s the exciting part.”
