Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, photographer J Houston studied art and gender theory at Carnegie Mellon University and currently resides in Brooklyn, New York. Through a lens of what they describe as “magical realism”, Houston’s images imagine the existence of a midwestern queer utopia. Centered around collected objects, hair, quiet performance and the unfetishized body, Houston offers a new reality—one ripe with freedom, possibility and community.
