A selection of collaborative drawings by Providence-based artists Joshua Allen and Katrina Pisetti aka the Velvet Other World (VOW). The duo began working together in their shared studio after developing a close friendship while studying printmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design. Their influences range from René Lalique’s glass designs to contemporary fashion, with costumes often acting as a kind of armour that shields the body. Both empowering and protecting, VOW’s drawings explore themes of body transformation and ornamentation. This is further reflected in their creative process which involves the use of heavyweight paper, repeatedly sanded down and recoated with layers of charcoal, encasing and transfiguring their visual concepts.
