“Nowhere Else To Go But Within” by Jocelyn Tsaih

Last month Glass Rice hosted Jocelyn Tsaih’s debut solo exhibition “Nowhere Else To Go But Within”. The show featured a series of introspective paintings by the Taiwan-born, Shanghai-raised and currently Oakland-based illustrator. The work was all created during the global shut down, which Tsaih called “an extended period of physical stillness and simultaneous emotional commotion”. Unable to physically travel, she journeyed within and confronted her discomfort, vulnerabilities and sadness. It was only after doing so that she found herself in a more hopeful and happy place.
